The JAviator project happened to appear in public for the very first time in the context of Christoph's inaugural lecture held at the University of Salzburg. Rainer, who's responsible for designing the JAviator platform, was reluctant to hand out any of his initial drawings and blueprints in the early design phase (which we suppose have merely existed in his head at that point), so Christoph presented our two training models for conveying the mysticism of quadrotors. Both the X-UFO and the Draganflyer are commercially available and serve as excellent tools for learning about quadrotor dynamics. However, this is also the only purpose we use them for, since they can hardly be equipped with additional payload.
The following video clips were taken while demonstrating the suitability of small quadrotors regarding indoor usage. Since our JAviator was under development and the Draganflyer was nonvolant at that time, all demonstrations were performed with the X-UFO. Flight commander Martin Heimlich, who volunteered to assist at this special event, looks back on many years of experience in flying model helicopters. Accordingly, he can fly everything that has rotors and the capability to lift off. There's currently no one better than him in our team, however, we're willing to learn and the force is strong in us!
Many thanks to Verena Horak, Clemens Auer, and Bernhard Kast for taking pictures and videos. Special thanks to Martin Heimlich for his top-performing with the X-UFO.
